Porcelain Veneers: The Process and What to Expect
Porcelain veneers are one of several aesthetic treatments available at Gentle Care Dentistry of Azusa, California. Dr. Brianne Luu and her team believe that men and women with imperfections near the front of the smile impacting their overall appearance should consider the benefits of veneers. Let’s look at the purpose, process, and care of porcelain veneers.
What are porcelain veneers?
Dr. Luu recommends porcelain veneers to cover imperfections on the anterior (front) teeth. Chipped, cracked, gapped, or misaligned teeth are great candidates for veneers, ensuring patients can disguise these issues quickly with a thin facing. The porcelain veneer matches the patient’s current smile for seamless integration.
What is the process of placing porcelain veneers?
If you have been cleared for porcelain veneers and are ready to start, we begin by preparing the natural tooth for the veneer. This requires Dr. Luu to minimally file down the enamel on the front of the tooth and roughen it to ensure proper adhesion. The prepared tooth is digitally scanned and sent to a laboratory to create the porcelain restoration specifically for the patient and their smile. Within a week or two, the veneer is sent to the dental office, and patients return to have the veneer bonded in place.

How long do porcelain veneers last?
The care and attention of the veneer will determine its longevity. Dr. Luu finds that many of her patients who take steps to ensure the restoration’s post-treatment care will sometimes enjoy them for a decade or more! Patients must brush, floss, and visit their dentist to monitor restorations and the natural teeth and gums over time.
