The dental pulp is a mass of tissues that contain the nerves and blood supply of the tooth, and when it becomes infected, should be removed by a dental professional.

To do so, patients are first anesthetized for comfort. During the procedure, patients should not feel anything and will be able to rest easily while Dr. Luu performs the treatment. She will drill a hole into the tooth and use special instruments to remove the dental pulp. Then the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected to ensure any bacteria inside is removed. Gutta percha, a rubber-like substance, is then administered into the canals of the tooth and it is sealed off with composite resin bonding. In cases where the tooth may undergo biting pressure, patients may also require the placement of a custom dental crown. This is done to keep the tooth from experiencing breakage. This is a preventative method of maintaining the natural tooth structure to avoid the possibility of damage in the future.
