These restorations act as “facings” that are bonded onto a tooth to cover it and disguise problems like permanently stained, chipped, or cracked teeth. But what can you expect from the veneer process and procedure? Let’s look at the five steps needed to obtain porcelain veneers at our office!

The five steps to the veneer procedure and process include:

• Step one: Consultation. We welcome patients to schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Luu to determine if they are viable candidates for veneers. We examine the patient’s oral health during this initial visit and discuss their desired outcomes. Dr. Luu may also take digital dental X-rays and a mold of their teeth to create a customized treatment plan.
• Step two: Preparation. Once it is determined that porcelain veneers are the right option for the patient, preparation for the procedure can begin. In most cases, this involves removing a tiny amount of enamel from the tooth’s surface to make room for the veneer. This ensures that the veneer sits flush with surrounding teeth once placed. Local anesthesia might provide the patient comfort during this process.
• Step three: Impressions. After the teeth are prepared, Dr. Luu digitally scans them. This scan then goes directly to the dental lab to create custom veneers. The digital scan ensures the veneers fit perfectly and look natural on the teeth.
• Step four: Temporary veneers. While waiting for the permanent porcelain veneers to be created, patients wear temporary veneers to protect their prepared teeth and maintain their aesthetics. These temporary restorations are made from resin and can provide a preview of their final results. They also allow patients to make any adjustments if needed before the final placement of their permanent veneers.
• Step five: Final placement. Once the custom veneers are created, usually within 2-4 weeks, patients will return to our office for the final placement appointment. During this visit, Dr. Luu checks the fit and color of the final veneers before permanently bonding them to the teeth using a special dental bonding material. Patients can enjoy their new, improved smile immediately after this procedure!
