The benefits of teeth implants
Dental implants are a commonly recommended solution for patients with missing teeth. It is currently the standard of care to replace missing teeth. They are the only restoration that stimulates your jaw to prevent bone loss to keep your teeth in place and prevent a sunken look to your face. While they might be more expensive than a bridge or partial dentures, they can last for decades with the proper care.
Teeth implants can support a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth, or support an entire set of dentures. Most patients who are healthy enough for surgery are good candidates for implants, though some may need bone or tissue grafts to help keep the implant in place. Dr. Luu can evaluate your mouth to determine if dental implants are right for you, as well as educate you on your other options.
What to expect from your restoration
The first step is to meet with Dr. Luu and discuss whether dental implants are right for you. A 3D scan and digital radiographs will be done for evaluation and diagnostic purposes.
The implant is a biocompatible, titanium artificial tooth root designed to replace the previously extracted root of your tooth. Dr. Luu places the implant into the bone. Over the course of a few months, the implant will fuse with the bone to strengthen the position of the implant.
Once your implant has integrated with the bone, Dr. Luu will take a mold to make the crown to place on top. The crown is typically ready within a few weeks. You’ll need to maintain proper oral hygiene to prevent complications with your implant, and follow all of Dr. Luu’s cleaning instructions.
