A Beautiful Smile with Porcelain Veneers in Azusa
It is natural for people to want a beautiful smile that they are confident in sharing. Over time, accidents, bad habits, and other factors can damage the appearance of the teeth, and even if they are healthy, the aesthetics of the smile suffer.
Porcelain veneers are a wonderful option for Azusa residents to restore or improve the appearance of their smiles. They can be used to change the size, shape, spacing, or shade of teeth.
What are porcelain veneers?
They are created from exceptionally thin pieces of porcelain that are only about a half of a millimeter thick. They are custom fabricated by a dental lab to Dr. Luu’s specifications. They are permanently attached to the front of your teeth, improving the aesthetics of your smile.
The porcelain veneers process
The first step in the veneers process is a compressive dental exam. This is to ensure that you are a good candidate for this procedure. Dr. Luu will also be looking for any dental issues that must be addressed prior to beginning the process. She will ask you to explain what you dislike about your smile and what changes you want to make. Next, she will prepare the teeth for the veneers by removing a very thin layer of enamel equal to the thickness of the veneers. Dr. Luu will take impressions of your prepared teeth; she will use these, along with the information regarding the changes you wish to make, to create wax mockup with the veneers. If you are happy with the design, she will have a dental lab create your veneers. This can take a couple of weeks. Once they are ready, you will have your final appointment to have them placed.
Keeping your smile beautiful
Porcelain veneers generally last between 10 and 15 years, but that greatly depends on the care they receive. Good oral hygiene and keeping your regularly scheduled appointments are very important. Avoid using toothpaste that is abrasive because it can dull the appearance of your veneers, if you are unsure what to use, ask Dr. Luu for a recommendation. Not chewing on ice, biting your nails, or grinding your teeth can help to keep your smile beautiful longer.
