Although orthodontic issues have a negative effect on the aesthetics of your smile, they also impact on your oral health. When teeth are correctly aligned and properly spaced oral hygiene is simple. When your teeth are crooked, crowded or have other orthodontic issues they form pockets that trap plaque and are difficult if not impossible to clean adequately when brushing or flossing your teeth. This can lead to the formation of cavities and gum disease.

Orthodontic treatment options

• I orthodontia –This option is used to treat children who do not have their adult teeth yet and are showing signs of crowding. It works to expand the size of the jaw helping to make room for the teeth. It can minimize or eliminate future orthodontic treatments.
• Clear braces –These clear aligner trays can help patients with minor orthodontic problems. Because they are removed when eating and caring for your teeth, they are a very convenient option, but they are not appropriate for severe orthodontic problems.
• Traditional braces –While this option may not be as aesthetically pleasing as clear braces it can be used to treat almost all orthodontic issues including those that clear braces cannot address such as severely tipped or rotated teeth and cases where the gapping or crowding exceeds five millimeters.
